FAILED BACK SURGERY

Conditions We Treat- Failed Back Surgery

What is it?

Failed Back Surgery is a generalized term used to describe the condition of patients who have not had a successful result with back surgery or spine surgery.

90% of all back surgery patients require a second back surgery.  Why is this? Actually is pretty simple, we tend to overuse and abuse the areas above and below the surgery.  Often times, we overuse the other side of our body.  Therefore, it is imperative that you have the areas of your spine around the surgery stretched to avoid future surgeries.  The Cox flexion/distraction/decompression technique has had amazing results in avoiding all future surgeries for our patients who have had successful or even unsuccessful surgeries.

Causes

  • The original disease has reoccurred or was not treated completely.
  • Complications may arise from back surgery or the natural healing process that follows back surgery.
  • Scar tissue forms around the surgery site, interrupting normal neurological functioning.
  • The diagnosis was incorrect.
  • The surgery is not performed at the site that causes the pain.

Symptoms

  • Diffuse, dull, and achy pain located primarily in the back and/or legs
  • Sharp, pricking, and stabbing pain that radiates from the legs

Treatment

  • Ultrasound, Electrical Stimulation, and Massage- relax the muscles around the spine.
  • Low Force Manipulation- is used to gently correct any misalignments that may be contributing to the condition.
  • Cox Flexion/Distraction/Decompression Technique- stretch the disc areas above and below the surgery. [Read More]
  • Rehabilitation Machines (such as the Spine Force)- strengthen the muscles around the spine. [Read More]
