WHIPLASH
What is it?
Many times after an auto accident patients feel neck pain, stiffness or tightness, difficulty in moving their neck, even tangling or numbness down their arms or into their fingers. Also, many times patients will suffer from headaches, and other related whiplash symptoms. Often, this results from pinched nerves in the neck that were related to the auto accident. It is a good idea after any auto accident to get tested to see if there is increased inflammation in your neck area which can lead to future problems.
Symptoms
- Neck stiffness
- Injuries to the muscles and ligaments (myofascial injuries)
- Headache and dizziness (symptoms of a concussion)
- Difficulty swallowing and chewing and hoarseness (could indicate injury to the esophagus and larynx)
- Abnormal sensations such as burning or prickling (this is called paresthesias)
- Shoulder pain
- Back pain
Treatment
- Low Force Manipulation- is used to gently correct any misalignments that may be contributing to the condition.
- Cox Flexion/Distraction/Decompression Technique- is used to stretch the neck avoiding any complicating disc degeneration. Also helps to keep arthritis from occurring in your neck earlier than it should.
- Rehabilitation Machines (such as the Spine Force)- strengthen the muscles around the spine. [Read More]
